The Cave sculpture series
My cave sculptures are directly inspired by the creatures depicted in cave paintings and other forms of Palaeolithic art. With the exception of the Woolly Mammoth each sculpture is hand forged from a single pieces of steel, and shaped using chisels and punches. The Woolly Mammoths tusks are made of stainless steel in order to contrast with the rust finish of its body. Every sculpture is unique and has a tactile quality created by hammer marks and the forging process. Some of the sculptures have glass bases, however I will be exploring different materials in the future to better convey the sense of a cold, ice age setting.
